Cardinals don't have the talent to sustain hot start
There are few on it you would want for your team other than Albert Pujols.
Heck, there might be no one on it you could name other than Albert Pujols.

Additions and corrections are appreciated.

With the Chubs losing on Thursday, the Cards go into the game in sole possession of first place.

I'm hoping for 2 out of 3 this weekend.

B. Barton lf .333
R. Ankiel cf .290
A. Pujols 1b .365
T. Glaus 3b .260
R. Ludwick rf .309
Y. Molina c .265
C. Izturis ss .212
A. Wainwright p .312
B. Ryan 2b .300

Nice to see Barton leading off. Skip hasn't done all that well against lefties this year.

On another note, I think Wainwright should have batted 7th instead of Izturis.

GO CARDS!

WOW, that was a quick hook on Hill. Sure he's got no control, but you'd think Lou would let him try and get Izturis out and hope he finds his stuff between innings. After all, its still only 1-0. Oh well, I'll take it as the Chubs dig into the pen early.

GO CARDS!

Another Wow as Soriano gives us a run on two "hits" that he should have had easily.

Two things:

1) Dangit IZZY! I wonder if he's having hip problems again. When Soriano came up I knew I had a bad feeling for a reason. I guess he makes up for his shoddy defense....

2) The Cards had so many opportunities in this game to score more runs but did not capitalize.

Time for some more runs!

I just found an amazing resource. I use baseball reference all the time, but I never realized that they have a stat preview of every game with a boat load of statistics to digest...

Very important game and the Cards win it 5-3 on a walk-off 2 run HR by Schu in the 11th.
The good, the bad and the ugly. The good was the walk-off, the bad was the no-decision for Wainwright and the ugly was the blown save by Izzy.
Back with the recap in a little while.

The Cards had 11 hits. Schu only had one but it was the game winner. Yadi and Brendan each had 2 with a double. Wainwright had a double. 1 single each for Albert, Ank, Ludwick, Izturis and Miles, who pinch hit in the 11th and was on base when Schu teed off.
Wainwright turned in an incredible performance considering that he threw 126 pitches in his last outing. He certainly deserved a win. He went 6 1/3 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits with 1 BB and 5 Ks. His ERA is down to 2.60. He threw 85 pitches-56 for strikes. Flores got his 4th hold by getting Reed Johnso to hit into a FC for the 2nd out in the 7th. He has yet to give up an earned run. McClellan finished the 7th with a K after giving up a hit. He earned his 8th hold and his ERA is 1.69. Franklin got his 10th hold. He went one inning giving up 2 hits and a BB but he did not give up a run. His ERA is 1.80. Izzy blew his 3rd save. He went 2/3 of an inning giving up 2 runs on 1 hit-a 2 run game tying HR by Soriano. He walked 2 and Kd 1. Villone earned his 1st win. He came in and ended the 9th. He followed with 2 more great innings. He gave up a hit and an unintentional intentional walk to Lee. He Kd 2. His ERA is 0.73.
I said that this was an important win. The Cards are in 1st place by 1 1/2 games but only 1 in the loss column. They have a 2 1/2 game lead on Milw. They lost to Houston. As long as the Cards take one of the next two, the Cubs will leave town in 2nd place. Tomorrow afternoon, it's Lohse vs. Lilly and Sunday evening, it's Wellemeyer vs. Marquis. You know that Jason wants to show up Duncan so it will be a tough game.
As a side note, the Cards got rid of Hill in the bottom of the 1st after he walked in a run. The Cards used their entire BP except Marmol. They all threw extended innings. We used everyone except Springer and Reyes. I would think that Flores and McClellan would be available if needed. The Cubs may be without Ramirez. He was hit on the wrist by a pitch. We need to win tomorrow to be sure of taking the series.
That's it for tonight. Be sure to check in with Coop in the AM for the minor league results and I assume that there will be a chat at 10 AM.
See ya later.
