Anybody got a feel for how accurate the pitching metrics are on MLB.com's website? The display of placement of the pitches and the amount of break and deflection causes me to chuckle. Is it really accurate compared to what people can see on TV or in person?

I can't help you with that Ibby. I don't know.
I think I got some very good TV news. I was fussing about Dish. I called asking why I wasn't getting the Cardinals. FSN MW was listed. I tried it, but it kept giving me different things. Not Cardinals. I found that without the small extra sports package they switched me off the channel. I added it and I'm seeing the end of the game. I was listening on radio. I hope I keep getting the TV of it. I was paying $13 a month with Direct TV. This one is just $5.99. Hallelujah! Not everything always goes wrong. Last edited by Coop; April 3rd, 2008 at 01:29 PM. |

Winning post # 2.
The pitching was the story today. Huckleberry did what he had to do. 6 2/3 shutout innings. Villone finished the 7th and Anthony Kd the side in the 8th. Izzy finished it out. Back with the recap shortly. |

The Cards had 8 hits. Albert and Glaus each had 2 with a double and Miles had 2 singles. Ank had 1 and Huckleberry had an RBI single.
Back to the pitching. Huckleberry (1-0 ) went 6 2/3 innings. He gave up 6 hits with 2 BBs and 6 Ks (his major league high). Villone got the only batter he faced. Reyes Kd the side in the 8th And Izzy got his 1st save. He went 1 inning giving up 1 hit. The thing to realize is that Cardinal pitching held the potent Rocky bats quiet for the entire series. Nice job. If not for the rainout and Glaus error in the 8th inning of the 1st game, we'd have been looking at a sweep. Side note. Schu made a great throw to the plate to stop the only threat the Rockies mounted and Huckleberry picked off a runner in the 1st. That's it for now. Tomorrow, Washington starts a series with Looper Vs. Odalis Perez, a lefty. Duncan will probably sit out to rest the hamstring on Fri and Sat since both starters are LHed and be available on Sun. See ya later. |

I was wondering if anyone had any details on Reyes and his inning. Did he dial it up for the K's (not the infamous "high fastball" -Duncan will be mad) or was it offspeed stuff for his success?
Thanks |

It was a mixture of breaking pitches and hard stuff.
A couple of the strike outs came on high, borderline strikes, at 94 mph. After the first hitter (3-2 count) he was aggressive and in command, imo. |

Back-to-back wins by our "converted relievers" Wellemeyer and Thompson! I have more faith in them keeping us in the game than Looper, I think. We'll see how he does. Supposedly he finished ironing out the kinks there at the end of ST and he's ready to go, too. Thompson in particular I think can be a starter long term. (Piniero and Clement be darned?)
I hope Schumaker breaks through with some hits soon. I'm sure he's frustrated that after a hot spring, he's not looking good so far. But 3 games (and 3 innings) against Colorado is a small measure. Hang in there, Skip. |

Reyes' sequence to Helton was fastball..changeup (fouled down the LF line) and struck him out on a curve ball....Just wondering if he can be effective in this role and build his confidence here..perhaps he will get a shot in the rotation? I'd like to see him get another opportunity after a few more appearances (hopefully successful) and place Wellemeyer back in the pen....
