Cardinals sign likely opening-day starter Adam Wainwright to $15 million, 4-year contract - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

It is being reported that the Cards signed Adam Wainwright today for 4 yrs, $15m, with club options for an additional 2 yrs. He'll receive $500k for '08, $2.6m for '09, $4.65m for '10 & 6.5m for '11.

The club options are for $9m and $12m, which would take extend Wainwright's Cardinal stay until 2013 and would bring the total contract to $36m.

He receives a $750k signing bonus.

That sounds very reasonable to me. From what we've seen of Wainwright the last two years, he seems a strong competitor, who's got the tools for the job.

Once we get the one-two punch of Carp and Waino going, we'll be doing quite well again.

or better at a minimum!
