Redbirds ready to roll in 2008

Memphis, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds will open their 2008 Pacific Coast League campaign on Thursday night at Oklahoma.

The Memphis roster boasts nine of the top 30 prospects in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, including the top prospects in outfielder Colby Rasmus and right-hander Chris Perez. The team returns 11 players that received action for the Redbirds last season with seven free agents and seven players promoted from within the organization rounding out the roster.

Manager Chris Maloney returns for his second season with the 'Birds and will be joined by new pitching coach Blaise Ilsley and new hitting coach Mark Budaska. Athletic trainer Chris Conroy enters his fourth season with club.

The Redbirds Red Carpet Home Opener presented by Sam's Town is Friday, April 11 when the Omaha Royals come to AutoZone Park for a 7:05 p.m. game. Saturday, April 12 will be the first Fireworks show of the season presented by First Tennessee with game time at 6:05 p.m. Baptist Kids Opening Day will be on Sunday, April 13 with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m. For ticket information visit memphisredbirds.com or call (901) 721-6000.
