Default Lohse Now a Cardinal

Per the PD:

Cards have signed Kyle Lohse to a 1 year 4.5 million dollar deal with incentives. Details can be read in the PD....

A positive signing. He has always been an innings eater which should put less stress on the pen. With Clement, Mulder and Carpenter out and with Piniero having shoulder stiffness we were faced with only 2 healthy starters we could "count" on in Wainwright and Looper. Balance of the staff....Reyes, etc.....well I'll withhold comment. Hopefully the starting staff will be a positive as the season goes along....

I used to think that we needed any warm body we can to give us innings. I was mistaken...now we're paying five million for a guy who if he breaks an ERA of five will be a victory. *sigh*

What do we expect to get from him that one of our AAAA farmhands couldn't do for 1/10th the price?

Don't know Hawk....you may be right....but I highly doubt that Reyes, Wellemeyer, Thompson, McClellan or Parisi could deliver innings at this point....could these guys average 6 to 7 innings per start?....

Thompson, maybe. Reyes, if he's healthy and has his head screwed on, possibly. The others, I just don't know. I'd be willing to give a few of them a shot...even go to a 6 man rotation in the spring to see what we have, and then roll with whomever gets hot.

Then again, Lohse has thrown 200 innings exactly once in his career. It's hard to be an innings eater when you keep getting knocked out of the game.
