Me too.

There was rumors last summer about "excess partying" by some members of the team. Looks like Mozeliak has drawn the line and is saying "No More".

I agree with Moe's philosphy.

Default Addiction

I hope that Speizio gets the help he needs. As a society we have come to shrug when we hear about this actor going to rehab or that starlet going to rehab. I just hope that he can truly find an answer. Addiction can eat you up. From my understanding, MLB has a really good and anonymous way to get their players help. Now that Scott's problems are more public than he may like, I hope he seeks it out.

As for the Cardinals cutting him, I really feel they had no choice. This team has a dark cloud over it when it comes to alcohol. Their no tolerance mentality must prevail going forward.

Looks like from the article in today's PD that Spiezio will be paid his full contract....hope he spend/saves it wisely as it could be his last big payday....unless he has qualified for his future pension....

I hope Spezio can get it together and stay sober.
Looking at the business side of it though, it is upsetting that we are committed to 2.3 million to him for this year. No return on that money.
I doubt if there is an insurance policy that would reimburse for this loss.

I hope the links open.
The players understand Spiezio had to go.

Openings?

I am content with the Moe proceeding slowly about adding to the roster. I want them to look over what they have. As I have given my opinion before, If the Cards turn loose some more money, I want it to be for a starting pitcher that can give a lot of quality innings and keep them in the games.

Winning baseball begins with starting pitching.

I like Spiezio, but I think the guys we have can still get the job done.

I want Brendan Ryan.

I wish I could hear thoughts about Izturis and Maxvill. The Cardinals knew Dal Maxvill couldn't hit, but Gibson wanted him there at SS for fielding. I hear about Izturis great fielding. He is not a fan favorite because he can't use a bat. Are there any comparisons?

And if you thought Spiezo's behavior was bizarre in previous reports, wait till you read what Beth Holland of the Post was able to put together from the police reports. If half of what she reports is true, Scott Spiezo's friends need to do an intervention IMMEDIATELY!!!

Police reports on Spiezio describe bizarre night By Elizabethe Holland / ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

Quote:
Spiezio and his wife, Jennifer Spiezio, went to dinner Dec. 30 at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Irvine. There, the player allegedly had six Grey Goose vodkas with cranberry juice while his wife drank champagne. After dinner, they went to Ten, a restaurant in Newport Beach, where together they ordered more vodka, food and an energy drink.

Spiezio left Ten alone in the couple's silver 2004 BMW 745 LI. A short time later, witnesses told police they saw the car speeding, cutting across lanes and crossing into oncoming traffic before driving over a curb and crashing into a fence at Campus Drive and Carlson Avenue.
Quote:
The records gave this account: Jennifer Spiezio answered the door and said police couldn't speak to her husband because he was asleep, sick with pneumonia. She told them she would check on him but came back a minute later and said she didn't want to wake him.

After police told her they believed her husband had been injured in a crash, she said they could come in but that she wanted to wake him first. She returned crying, said he wasn't in the room and that she didn't know where he'd gone but that they could look for him.

Three officers went inside and couldn't find him. "However," one report reads, "there was what appeared to be a storage closet that we were unable to gain entry into. … It seemed that the door was being held shut from the inside, or was locked from the inside."

Another report read: "It is believed that Scott Spiezio was hiding behind this door."
I'm sure Spiezo's wife was just trying to protect him, but her actions that night suggest that she "might" be having problems also in dealing with Scott's addiction(s).
