Default My Projected 25 man Roster

On Wednesday, the Cards open up their exhibition season with a game against Saint Louis University at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter.

As the snow starts to fall here in St Louis, I thought I would make my annual stab at the opening day 25 man roster. Feel free to join in and name yours. It's always fun to look back and see who the surprises are come opening day.

On the DL - Chris Carpenter (60 day DL), Mark Mulder , Matt Clement and Josh Kinney (60 Day DL), Juan Encarnacion (60 day DL)

Starters: Wainwright, Piniero, Looper, Wellemeyer, Thompson (2 starts in April and then back to the BP)

Bullpen: Isringhausen, Franklin, Springer, T Johnson, Randy Flores, Ron Villone, Cliff Politte

Catchers - Molina, LaRue

Infielders - Pujols, Kennedy, Izturis, Glaus, Ryan, Spiezo (Inf/OF)

Outfielders - Duncan, Ankiel, Ludwick, Barton, Gonzalez

Waived/Traded - Skip Schumaker, Aaron Miles

This will be a lot easier after tomorrow's game but I think that the Cards are going to want a 3rd established starter. I don't feel that Looper, Wellemeyer or Thompson fall into that catagory. Anthony Reyes is starting tomorrow anf if he looks good, imho, he'll have the inside track for a spot. I, also, think that Ryan will start the year in Memphis therefore, here's my 25 man roster subject to many changes;

Starters- Wainwright, Piniero, Reyes, Looper and Wellemeyer
Relievers- Isringhausen, Franklin, Johnson, Springer, Thompson, Randy Flores, and Villone
Catcher- Molina and LaRue
IF- Pujols, Kennedy, Izturis, Glaus, Spiezio and Miles
OF- Ankiel, Duncan, Gonzalez, Ludwick and Schumaker

DL- Carpenter, Mulder, Clement, Encarnacion, Kinney and Barton

You can flip-flop Villone and Pollite according to who looks better but either could be at Memphis available for a quick call up. Of course, all of this may change if the Cards pick up another pitcher during ST.
