GoCrazy -- Maybe that $3m that Globesports is saying will go to the Jays is actually the money ($3m deferred?) owed to Rolen at the end of his contract.
Just a guess... Last edited by ArRedbird; January 14th, 2008 at 01:36 PM. |

wow. I'm gone from the boards a couple days, and come back to find this. All things considered, I'm not really disappointed. If Rolen was pushing as hard as he apparently was to be traded, this is a pretty decent swap.
2008 is going to be a really fresh line-up. Not much 2004 magic left. Schumaker/Barton Ankiel Pujols Glaus Duncan Molina Kennedy pitcher Izturis Last edited by AutobodyCAD; January 14th, 2008 at 06:50 PM. |

The most impressive point is how much return value John Mozeliak was able secure for Rolen when the entire world knew that he was dealing from a disadvantage. If this trade is indicative of what the Cardinal Nation can expect from Mo, we may have entered an interesting era.
Ever since Bleacher Bum posted something about the potential this deal had for expansion I’ve been trying to put together potential scenarios in my mind. Frankly, I don’t see much potential for a match, in that what the Cardinals might be able to move seems to be areas that are already strengths for the Blue Jays’ organization, with the possible exception of sending Anthony Reyes northward. While I don’t expect to see anything beyond the one-for-one Rolen/Glaus deal right now, perhaps the groundwork has been set for additional talks. Perhaps a package that would return David Purcey and Justin Jackson might be fair exchange, but Kozma and Jackson in the same organization doesn’t seem likely and Purcey only makes sense if the organization felt they could succeed with coaching where the Blue Jays have failed. On the other hand, there are only two or three players in the Cardinal organization I wouldn’t move in a deal to bring Alex Rios to St. Louis.
