Default 2008 Cardinal Caravan Stops

CARDINALS CARAVAN SET FOR JAN. 21
River Bandits to celebrate M.L.K. Day with Caravan luncheon

The Cardinals Caravan will once again be heading to the Quad Cities in 2008, scheduled for a Martin Luther King Day stop at Modern Woodmen Park at Noon on January 21.

The event will feature a mix of current and former St. Louis Cardinals players and will give River Bandits fans the opportunity to meet Cardinals greats past and present, receive autographs, win Cardinals and River Bandits memorabilia, and enjoy a full lunch in Modern Woodmen Park’s suite banquet area.

“We are pleased that the Quad Cities River Bandits are welcoming the St. Louis Cardinals and our caravan to their city,” said Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak. “We recognize that there are a lot of great Cardinals fans in the Quad Cities and feel that it’s important to reach them on a personal level. We look forward to seeing them out there.”

Though the current major and minor league players that will be with the caravan have not yet been confirmed, the St. Louis Cardinals have announced that former players Kerry Robinson and Scott Cooper will be joined by broadcaster Dan McLaughlin at the event.

Tickets will cost $15 for this year’s Cardinals Caravan, and can be purchased by calling the River Bandits front office at (563) 324-3000 or by visiting the Modern Woodmen Park Box Office.

“The Cardinals Caravan coming here is a great example of how important the Quad Cities are to the St. Louis organization,” said River Bandits’ Vice President Kirk Goodman. “There are not a lot of major league teams that spend their holidays visiting their minor league affiliates, but the Cardinals know that the Quad Cities are really special.”

Robinson spent the three most productive seasons of his seven-year big league career with St. Louis from 2001-03, hitting a combined .264 with 76 of his 93 career stolen bases during those seasons. The St. Louis native reached the playoffs twice with the Cardinals, including an appearance in the National League Championship Series in 2002.

Cooper, a two-time all-star with the Boston Red Sox in 1993-94, hit .265 in his seven seasons in the major leagues as a third baseman. The Cardinals traded for him prior to the 1995 campaign in a deal that set Rheal Cormier and Mark Whiten to Boston.

The emcee of the event will be McLaughlin, who serves as the play-by-play voice for all Cardinals’ road games and several home games on FSN Midwest in addition to his duties as pre-game host and analyst during other FSN broadcasts.

The names of the current Cardinals players joining the Caravan will be released soon.

ABOUT THE RIVER BANDITS: After an off-season full of upgrades, the Quad Cities River Bandits will open the 2008 campaign at Modern Woodmen Park on April 3! Merchandise featuring the new team name and logo is currently available by visiting the Modern Woodmen Park team store, and season ticket packages, mini-packages, and the all-new “You Pick 10” pack are on sale at the park or by calling (563) 324-3000!

You can see, I don't have any news in Memphis.
Redbirds : Commercial Appeal
I liked Dyar Miller. I don't think Mark Riggins likes Memphis.
David Kelly is gone. I think Steve Selby will be having the broadcasts alone.

The Civil Rights Game is White Sox-Mutts.
The Redbirds told me they thought the Cards may come every other year.
I don't think they like us, anyway.
Those games sure do cost a bunch and are a MEDIA event.
I like to see baseball. I have no plans to go for that.
