Default Latest from Joe Strauss in Florida

Here's a link to an update from Joe Strauss from the winter meetings:

Sounds like the Cardinals are talking seriously about Pavano. There's also something about So that I'm sure Bleacher would like to read!

Couple of quotes from the Joe Strauss article -

Quote:
Concerns over pending arbitration with several players may also move the Cardinals to action this week. The club is believed leaning toward non-tendering reliever Jorge Sosa, who made $2.2 million last season.

Jocketty restated his desire to keep outfielder So Taguchi; however, the club would prefer to negotiate a one-year deal that could hold Taguchi’s salary near last season’s $900,000.
Quote:
Though pitcher-turned-outfielder Rick Ankiel remains on the 40-man roster, the Cardinals are unlikely to go to arbitration with a player who did not play at any level last season but owns almost four years major-league service time. The club could non-tender him, then attempt to re-sign him to a split contract.
Quote:
Because the former 11-game winner spent the entire season on the major-league disabled list, Ankiel received a $400,000 salary as well as a full playoff share.
Now that's the kind of job that I need - $700K for doing nothing

Tulcard,

Here's the reference to So:

Jocketty restated his desire to keep outfielder So Taguchi; however, the club would prefer to negotiate a one-year deal that could hold Taguchi’s salary near last season’s $900,000.

I think the Skip comment was Bleacher's.

It depends on if So wants more money or not. Of course if we win the World Series again, his salary will boost over $1 million again Its got to feel nice for So to win the world series before Matsui and Ichiro, two of the best known Japanese players in the world.

Ankiel sure has made a lot of money for doing a whole lot of nothing in his career (other than that rookie season of course). I hope he's investing it well It'd be nice if he would get back on the pitchers mound and realize that its all in his head and then go on to win the Cy Young next year....Wow I think i'm getting delusional (must be the cold). That could have been Rick's career though. There's no telling how many Cy Youngs he could have won. Such wasted talent....

Yeah,
I'm sorry about Rick Ankiel. So much wasted ability.

I'm sorry Soup is probably leaving. Bob Tewksbury was the really terrible mercenary to me. What a jerk. The Cards pulled him out of the garbage dump for nothing. He should have stayed there. Garbage.

Maybe Weaver really wants to stay.

I think So will want to stay.
Carp extended.

These guys won a World Championship I never expected.
I gave up. I'm happy for my favorite team in all sports.
I am enjoying the things Walt Jocketty is doing this off season.

For spring, I may be back into the whole thing again.
