The Cards have called a 3 PM press conference today to announce that John Mozeliak has been named GM. 3 year deal.

In addition to Moe's promotion, the Cards have hired Matt Carroll (from the Padres organization) to be Coordinator, Baseball Operations.

Agreed somewhat with Bernie....there is a strong inclination to believe in the 'status quo/safe' approach with this hire. Normally, I'd be all over this as a cowardly move, but in the relatively weak FA market this year is it really so important?

What we need right now is some good trades and restocking the farm. If Mo can do that, then in the worst division in baseball we still have a shot in '08.

One of Mozeliak's first moves as GM was to promote Mike Girsch to director of the analytical department. That office will report to Mozeliak, whereas in previous years it reported to vice president of player development Jeff Luhnow and had no direct conduit to the general manager.
