Sounds like they made a couple of good moves. Both could sign elsewhere but we will get draft picks for them. With the state of the market this year, it was a no loose situation on Suppan. The Cards don't want a multi-year deal for him so either way they win. Mulder is another story. The Cards want an option year to make up for his rehab time. Mulder wants one year so that he can enter the market after next season. The word is that he has a side deal with WJ not to accept arbitration. The surprise was that they didn't offer arbitration to Weaver. I guess that they were afraid that he'd accept and that it could cost more than they are willing to pay. I'm sure that they will still try to resign him. Belliard became useless once they signed Adam Kennedy and offering arbitration could have been a disaster. Bye-bye Jason. It's been nice knowing you. Time to not listen to some other pitching coach. The Cards can still negotiate with Vizcaino and Wilson. I think that we may hear about Gonzo today or tomorrow.

Yesterday was the last day to offer a team's free agents arbritration. Here's the article in today's Post Dispatch - http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/spo...F?OpenDocument - Only two Cards offered arbitration by Joe Strauss.

Arbitration can be a real game of Russian Roulette sometimes....even so, I would have offered him arby, and not just for the pick (which are generally overrated in value, IMHO). I still think he can be an effective back of the rotation starter given the opportunity.
