I like the fact that a majority of our backups beat Dallas at full strength.
Btw, you forgot to mention we have 12 players on IR. Also, Seattle has one---if not THEE---best 2 min offense in football history. The only thing I was worried about was them getting a first down. Otherwise we had plenty of time to answer any points. If the FG did go on, I was 100% confident we could go down field at the quick tempo we love and score one to take the game. TD there would make it harder, but doable...1st down would give us single digit seconds to score... I think the Seahawks deserve more credit than they are getting. We signed secondary players off the street---Hunter was a freaking loan officer this year when we caled him. The refs were semi-fair for once, which is awesome. They still missed two PI calls, and pretty much every hold, but im getting used to them missing holds now. Hince why our once dominant pass rush is pathetic now. Still they made the RIGHT calls when we needed them most, which is awesome. Keep in mind these are the same refs who allowed Hass to get injured without calling a late hit or anything. Funny, every other QB is protected if a fingernail touches them. |

IMO I really think it's time for you Seahawk fans to get off this whole ref thing.

I also felt bad for Romo after the game. This will be devastating for him in the future, like Pujols' home run was for Brad Lidge. He will forever be tagged with the choker label. I guess it's his karma for stealing Carrie Underwood away from Josh Brown. I guess I don't feel so bad for Romo... |

Damn Pujols. I had Lidge in a keeper league last year and Albert completely ruined him.
But yeah, something like that can ruin a guy.

Re: the refs thing...
While nobody should be continually *****ing about the Super Bowl last year, let's not pretend that Seattle's breaks have evened out, not from the officiating at least. The play at the one-yard line wasn't a break from the refs, it was the RIGHT CALL. They made a TERRIBLE call originally on the spot, and all they did in reviewing it is get it right. They were bad on spotting the ball all game long, but in the end they seemed to re-spot the ball correctly - several times without any reviewing of tape. I thought the game was called pretty well on Saturday, with the natural exception of some non-calls for really, really bad holding on the Dallas O-line, but every significant play was called correctly, instant replay booth or not. The bad calls in this game were by Holmgren, Parcells and Mo Carthon, the Dallas offensive coordinator. Holmgren always toys with that ridiculous stretch play on predictable running downs, such as the one he called on first and goal from the one, the first play after the PI call on the Burleson slot-seam fly pattern. Alexander lost big yardage and the Hawks ended up not scoring. Parcells was outcoached, though, even if the Boys had won, which they probably should have. Carthon should be fired. Only throwing 11 passes COMBINED at Glenn and Owens is criminal, and it's even worse when you consider the massive issues with the Seattle defensive backfield. If Carthon was calling plays on reco from Parcells, they should both be canned. Last edited by JasonAChurchill; January 10th, 2007 at 04:34 PM. |

JAC,
Absolutely right about the refs. It took replay to get it right, but they did get it right. In the end, the game was won and lost on the field, not due to the refs. Yes they were robbed in the Super Bowl, but lets get over it and look at each game on its own. My experience is that teams that blame officiating are generally making excuses and distracting themselves from their own performance or lack thereof, in any sport. You are also dead on about Dallas' play calling. Did they ever throw deep to TO? I don't recall them ever taking a shot deep to him and only 1 or 2 to Glenn. They also had Witten free on seam routes on several occasions, like to 4th down 31 yard gain. But instead of working that route or putting pressure on our corners with deep routes, they seemed content with dump offs to backs or short routes across the middle. I thought Parcells was timid in playcalling because of Romo's lack of experience. He didn't want to use 5 or 7 step drops for fear of sacks. It seemed like Romo had adequate time, especially on play action. Our sacks were largely of the coverage variety. Nevertheless, Romo seemed to throw a lot of balls at the receivers feet. I'm sure that his struggles didn't embolden Carthon/Parcells. In watching the game on Sunday, and film from his previous outings, I couldn't help but think that Romo has a problem holding onto the ball, ala Dave Krieg. He's had several fumbles that made me wonder if he has small hands (Krieg's favorite excuse). However, all I've heard is that the kicking balls were slick. Seems to me Romo's problem goes beyond slick balls. |

Carthon has been gone from Dallas for 2 years
I agree the playcalling left a lot to be desired for Dallas. I'll give you the Witten spot, but there was the Glenn no catch for the safety, the bogus 3rd down calls on the Dallas defense, and then non pass interference on the last play of the game that came to mind off the top of my head. As far Romo fumbling the snap, that was his first miscue in that area in his career. It's not an excuse, but compared to the other balls I noticed for kicks, that one looked much slicker. |
