Mariners with strong chance to open '08 in Japan

Mariners could get a call to play in Japan

Baseball will open the 2008 season in Japan, and reports say the Boston Red Sox, with pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka on the roster, will be one of the two teams involved.

The other team could be the Mariners, although the Yankees and the A's are also on the list of teams that could be involved.

I would be suprised if any team but the Mariners is chosen. That would mean at least four former NPB players on the rosters, and there is a certain owner who has yet to see his team play in person.

I'm not sure this is a great idea. We lose at least a couple of home games, in addition to traveling half way around the world. I'd say thanks but no thanks.

1 home game for each team would be lost and three days off on the return trip was how it was done in previous goes.

I appreciate the three days off, which also means you start the season earlier than anybody else.

Again, thanks but no thanks. This team already travels more miles than any other team during a season. Why add another 10-12 thousand?

I needed a vaction, and then work changed substantially. I'm over 50 hour weeks, plus two hours a day of commuting time. A few weeks ago I launched my own blog about Seattle Sounders FC and Life in Puget Sound. I won't be by these parts often as my focus has changed. Sorry about the unannounced retirement.
