The dollars don't matter, unless you care how much profit the owners take home at the end of the year. If you dont' think that the onfield performance would improve that I could see, but really you care more about ownership profits than making the playoffs?

Paulie: Only 1 untouchable :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: White Sox
Mariners are scouting Jose Contreras and Jermaine Dye. Dye seems redundant as the club already has a less good version of him in Guillen. No Dye without a Guillen move. Contreras seems even less useful to me than Morris, as Contreras wouldn't get the "hitters havent' seen him recently" bump.

Best three lefthanded bats that are available are Adam Dunn, Mark Teixiera and Ken Griffey Jr. (links to FanHome Baseball Rumors on subject, Teix mentioned earlier in this thread)
The good news on all three is that they are all under some form of club control for next year. The good news concerning today's shutout is that none of the playoff clubs have a Halladay or Santana, the bad news is that the Mariners need to perform against that level of competition or they won't make it.

Halladay had a rough season that had an appendictomy early I believe.

I also know how this club thinks. If Morris blows for the rest of the year, or blows next year, or both, they will not dump him because he's making a lot of money. Raul Ibanez continues to play everday. Why? Because he's making a good deal of money. Jose Vidro is the same thing. Richie Sexson as well. Even though it has worked out so far, Jeff Weaver can be added to that as well. And yeah, like Wiggen said, we need another bat as well it seems. Calling up Jones and having him be Ibanez's permanent replacement is a start. Have Brouusard play everyday at first base would also help matters. But we still have holes at shortstop, 2nd base, and DH. I can feel this team slipping away. If they don't do something very very soon, they are going to fall out of this race.

I have to ask, but is this offense now bad enough that some who didn't want Griffey (last 28 days 284/433/527/960) during hype week, would want him now?
Also, what if a deal for Matt Morris was Sexson+Saunders for Morris, no cash either way?

Bedir - I'd take Griffey in a heartbeat. I'd also go along with Goose's suggestion regarding Jones, although I think the expectations for him from some are unreasonable. I'd also get Richie Sexson out of the lineup. Broussard would be my first baseman against right-handed pitching, at least.
I do not think Griffey will be here, unless Cincy agrees to do something really stupid, like take Sexson's contract on. We just can't afford him. |

griffey's remaining salary due for this year is about 3 million (rest is deferred) and only 6 next year with rest deferred. with ichiro deferring 5 million a year the next 5 years, they can afford him without dealing away any salary.

Just for the record, I don't think Jones is going to come up and have a Ryan Braun type impact on this team. There is a possibility he could do that, but I don't honestly think he will.
What I expect out of Jones for the rest on the season if he comes up is above average defense and something along the lines of .270/.330/.430. But even that is miles above what Ibanez is giving us right now.

On KOMO word is that Ron Washington is 90% certain that Mark Teixiera will be dealt in the next week.
