I have listened to David Locke for years at KJR.

Same guy that said Johnny Damon was better then Ichiro. He also said that Jeff Cirillo was the ideal upgrade over David Bell.

Just remember this: David Locke likes the WNBA.

Locke never said that Damon was better than Ichiro, just more likely to be a success. He recanted that by July of '01. In fact he praised me on air for getting Ichiro right.

Cirillo had every indication of being better than David Bell before the deal, it wasn't until a year after that it was apparent that Cirillo had been destroyed by Colorado and then SafeCo.

Ichiro Suzuki-OF- MarinersJul. 18 - 2:57 pm et
$25 million of the $90 million Ichiro Suzuki is owed under the terms of his new contract is deferred through 2032.
Seattle will pay $12 million in salary each year and defer $5 million per season at 5.5 percent interest. Because of the deferred money, the average annual value of hsi five-year, $90 million extension is discounted to $16.1 million under the provisions of baseball's collective bargaining agreement.

this organization has only deferred one contract, Griffey's. I'm rather surprised they did this, I can't recall any other deal that they have even offered with significant deferments.

They've basically secured him for life, long after his career is over...ensuring both his personal loyalty and that of Japanese players & fans as a whole. A good, if expensive, PR move on the part of the Mariners' organization.

Good to see Ichiro has reacted so positively with the bat since his contract extension and since the exit of the evil Mike Hargrove.

What exactly is he hitting since the extension? How about for the entire month of July?

And can we stop with this "he could hit 25-30 home runs if he wanted to" nonsense? He's got 5 home runs and he's on pace for 8 or so this year.

But yes, I know - he's not subject to criticism, so how about we call this post just legitimate baseball questions instead?

You are right he is on his typical pace for 8-10 HR, and is having his worst July in his MLB history. He totallly deserves that criticism. As for the 25-30 HR thing, I don't know who you are talking about, all I've ever wanted is to see him in the Derby, at least for power. I would like to see him leg out more doubles.

Larry Stone | Attanasio content if Ichiro deal is his last | Seattle Times Newspaper

Attanasio is done as a player agent unless Ichiro tells him to take someone else on. Which I guess is good if the Mariners want Kosuke Fukodome
