Default How 'bout that Adrian Beltre?

We, the Seattle Mariner faithful, not only are a dwindling group, but part of the reason the attendance is down is due to a man with a very large contract who hasn't performed for a full season.

255/303/413 with 19 HR and 3-1 SB-CS in 2005
268/328/465 with 25 HR and 11-5 SB-CS in 2006

BUT this season we are seeing something different, kind of

260/309/441 with 7 HR and 5-2 so far, but that doesn't include tonight's solid two-double and Homer performance

ten games ago Beltre was only batting .248

He has now hit 2 HR and 5 doubles in that time

His BABIP is lower than any but two of his full time seasons. The kid is trending up lately.

Are we about to see an early start to the good Beltre partial seasons in his Mariner past?

Just wanted to add a couple things.

Beltre's 2nd homer today was his 200th career shot.

Both shots, are dots on top of each other on gameday...were they really that close to each other?

No complaints. Beltre has 9 on the year, and its not even June...so much for a slow start.

Now on pace for over 50 doubles and 32 HR.

Not surprising really. We've always known Beltre is a warm weather hitter. The difference is, he's starting early this year(then again, so is the weather).

Though he has gotten better every year he's been here. Hell, he might just earn his contract in years 4 and 5(maybe even this one!) before Tri comes up to replace him.

I've learned to accept Adrian Beltre.

The reason being is the guy is the best third baseman I've ever had the chance to watch on a regular basis.

Yes his contact isn't the best but the fact remains that he is a pretty damn good ballplayer and we have had a lot of garbage come through the Emerald City.

So two months later what else can we learn about Beltre?

Mariners Stats - Win Probability | Fan Graphs

How 'bout that he's been the second best offensive player on the club while also providing the second best defense, both after Ichiro.

Beltre is now at 277/335/490 with 15 HR and is one of only 5 players to contribute one win (measured by WPA) this season. The leader there is obvisouly Putz, but Beltre is right there with Ichiro, Felix, and Sherrill.

Adrian Beltre 2007 Batting Splits - Baseball-Reference PI

And sure it might all be due to just one hot stretch, but while most of the team has struggled post All Star Beltre has been putting up great numbers.

last 28 days - 330/415/604
since the break - 276/373/500
July - 333/422/621

And since I have continued to advocate him as THE option for the two hitter
with a man on 1st - 373/391/716
batting in two hole - 268/346/420 which isn't great, but was also mostly early in the season not during the hot stretch.
