I'm officially off the fence on the Ichiro stance.

Pay the man.

It's funny Goose. I was thinking the same thing the past couple of days.

It's funny how winning changes one's thinking.

Hopefully winning is making Ichiro's decision an easy one as well.

It's not the winning that's changed my mind. It's his performance.

Have you looked at his offensive numbers? He's having the best year of his career. Yes, even better than the historic 2004.

.362/.422/.470/.892
23/25 in stolen bases

He's hitting better at home(.403/.461/.503) than he is on the road(.325/.376/.433). Which is remarkable.

He's sporting the 2nd best walk rate of his MLB career(2002 was his best).

He leads ALL OF BASEBALL in Total Win Shares with 20.

And his defense in center in one of the best in the game.

Halfway through the season, he's arguably the MVP of the American League.

Pay the Man. Whatever he wants, pay the man.

Unless the Mariners offer him an insane amount of money, he would be foolish not to get in on the free agency spending spree.

Red Sox, Dodgers, Mets, Yankees... cha ching!!!!

It is obviously not about the money with Ichiro. If it was about the money he would have signed the advertising offers he has had for tens of millions of dollars.

This decision will not be purely about cash.

So we thought about A-Rod, Roger Clemens, Johnny Damon, etc.. etc..

I think most athletes are all about the money. Until Ichiro re-signs and proves me wrong, he is no different from a guy trying to supposedly put food on the table for his family.

Ummm, I'm unaware of any of the players you mention turning down contracts that would double their income. Ichiro has been doing that for six years.

Well, now that he's gotten rid of the one stumbling block to his re-signing, I expect he'll be back in centerfield next year. Still calling the shots.
