The Angels had this same dilemma before signing a 10-year $500 million deal with Fox Sports. Many people thought that Arte Moreno would go the independent way and create his own television/radio stations. But, when management costs and other factors are brought into play, the guaranteed yearly income of a deal with Fox Sports just makes a whole lot of sense. Sure, YES and NESN are cash cows for their respective teams, but they weren't always that way, and there were plenty of initial costs that were involved in the creation of those two entities.

And, what happens to the a privately owned network when MLB fully launches MLBTv as the exclusive provider of baseball coverage?
10/300 is a gauruntee of income.
