Some have offered aggressive offseasons. Some have asked for a bit of moderation.
Both are saying the same thing. This offseason the talent is mediocre, the prices are high. So unless you can go get huge names via trade, hold yourself back. Position the club for a run by adding average talent at average prices and then acquire someone else's bad deals come the Deadline. At the deadline there is a lot of talent that might be available at a 50% discount, and at that price those players make sense. Don't buy, don't sell, just BUILD the club to succeed in the long term, as welll as the short. Deal for a Jason Jennings or Doug Davis, or Nate Robertson if the cost is spare parts like Reed, Mateo, Broussard. If the club could acquire a Coco Crisp to play left field that makes sense as well. Okha seems to be a relative to this offseason value signing. Get him. Sure its not a cast of stars, but its better than the 2006 club.

Are there rumors for Coco? What would they give up for him? Come to think about it, that could be a good idea for the Mariners. I think Coco can't handle the pressure in Boston.
He could do really well for the Mariners. |

He's just a guy I've been pushing for LF for the Mariners. It seems the Red Sox are no longer happy with Crisp, and might have interest in a few of the parts that the Mariners have. Reed+Broussard would be salary neutral for 2007 and that move would improve the Mariners defense and offense.
I like the look of a Crisp, Ichiro, Snelling OF with Ibanez at DH.

Crisp has been a disappointment in here in beantown due to injury and lack of getting on base. They may give him antoehr season but it would not surprise me to see him packaged up and traded. I have no clue as to who they would get for a CF and lead off hitter.

The Red Sox don't need a long term solution at CF, within 2 years Jacoby Elsbury should be playing there. My guess is that the Red Sox try to get by with Crisp there for this year, and then go with Elsbury...
