Its a minor league deal with a Spring Training invite. That's actually quite smart. If he has it still he helps, if not he's getting 100k to wow Nick Lachay.

I like it. Minor league deal with an invite. If he's good again, then we got a lefty who's better than Woods. If he isn't, we either stash him in Tacoma or cut him. All upside.

He's 37, but I could of swore he was more like 41, 42. Seems like he was in his high 30's when he last pitched for us.

He actually doesn't age. He was 37 in 2001 and will be 37 in 2011. Must be a vampire or something.

At least Omar is in the NL this time, so he won't whine about Rhodes' necklace and earrings.

A's fan here and as an A's fan, I'd say good move. Give the A's a better shot.
But, since Mariner fans seems to be the classiest of the AL West, I must send my condolances. Not only did he stink it up for the green and gold but he got into very public spats with Tim Hudson. |

Probably because you guys tried to make him a closer, and he's not a closer he's a setup guy. The year after he stunk with you guys, he went right back into his normal role with the Indians and pitched well.
Not one of Beane's finer moments. If he pitches well enough to make the team, I would say it's not good news for the A's. You guys would be better off if we're forced to stick with Jake Woods.

That said, I thought he looked really stupid in puke green and yellow anyway (not that there's anything wrong with that mind you). Making him a closer was pretty laughable too. That said, he's likely done anyway. No risk here, other than Hargrove running him out there again and again as a sacrifical lamb. I mean afterall, this team won't be winning much anyway.
