According to JAC, Greg Dobbs has been waived. This gets the roster down to the 40 man limit. I hope this is just roster manipulation, as Dobbs could be outrighted and invited to ST if he clears waivers. He deserves a chance to compete for a spot, even though I doubt he will have an impact as anything more than a LH pinch hitter.
FWIW, I've had a soft spot for Dobbs ever since his MLB debut, when he homered in a loss against Cleveland, in his first MLB at bat. I was sitting behind home plate, just up from the Diamond club seats with my wife on our 20 year anniversary. Dobbs was the only bright spot in a 9-5 drubbing. I see this is reported on Rotoworld.com, but there is no official release on either the Mariners' or Phillies websites. It isn't even listed under transactions. However, Dobbs is shown on the Phillies' 40 man roster. Any reason why there isn't a release by either team, or does the bench elf just not matter that much?
