Default Questions Concerning Minor League Pitchers

YORMAN BAZARDO
1. Why is his strike-out rates so low? He's not a junk-ball pitcher, is he?
2. Does he induce a lot of ground balls?
3. Does he have any shot for a spot in the rotation or even the bullpen in 2007?

ANDREW BALDWIN
1. What is his repertoire?
2. Will he open the season in West Tenn or Tacoma?

ANDY BARB
1. What is his repertoire?
2. Will he open the season in West Tenn or Tacoma?

AUSTIN BIBENS-DIRKX
Does he have a chance to be in the M's bullpen in 2007?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I didn’t follow the minor league teams last year as much as I usually do. If you can help, thanks.

I'll do what I can.... but keep in mind that your first three guys have the same basic rep.: low 90s FB, inconsistent secondary offerings.

1. Bazardo is one of those guys who never really learned how to pitch for the strikeout, which is both good and bad. This passed when he was throwing in the mid to upper 90s, because everyone thought it would come around eventually, but he stopped doing that a while ago and has since been topping around 93 from what I remember. Has a change and a slider to go with, in varying stages of development. Bazardo ranges from average to flyball pitching. Doesn't induce a whole lot of grounders. I'd say he gets a look for the bullpen in spring training and probably after as well.

2. Baldwin: Gets hit a lot, but minimizes the walk and manages to survive without a whole lot of strikeouts. Probably gets the Jon Huber treatment a year or two down the road. West Tenn.

3. Barb: former catcher, didn't pitch at all after coming over in the trade, which makes me a little curious. Has the walks in excess, as former position players are prone to having, but manages to strike out a bunch and keep the hits down. May be worth following. Probably in High Desert to start the year.

4. Maaaaaay-be. It depends on whether the novelty wears off his delivery, and if we seem to think we need a ROOGY, which is what people were projecting him as prior to the draft. He might be more that a ROOGY, but small sample sizes freak me out.

Righthanded One Out Guy opposite of LOOGY.

Both are specialist with limited repetoire who as more people see them the harder they get hit.
