Im glad I got a jump in learning about the Brewers last year myself. If my team is going to be mediocre, at least im gonna enjoy it.
Besides, Cecil's son is a freaking monster. Oh, and the vocabulary word doesn't surprise me. Look up 'Grover' and you'll find the smarter version---the sesame street character. |

Seattle Blogs take on the incident
USSMariner Considering they have at least four stories on it, this is the easies way. But they do have this from Baseball Prospectus Quote:
Code:
EqBA EqOBP EqSLG EqA Age ‘07 Salary Jose Vidro .283 .352 .406 .266 32 $7.5M Chris Snelling .265 .356 .438 .283 25 $1.0M* Quote:
And now I realize one of the things I like about the software here is that we don't need a seperate thread for each person's opinion.

At least Bavasi still has the Fontaine draft class.

Ice, it is not as if they've dealt anyone of signifigance from the Fontaine era. They still have Morrow, Clement, Jones, Butler. The Top10 is a whos who of Fontaine's drafts.

I meant "not for long" as in Bavasi won't be around long enough to enjoy the fruits of Fontaine's brilliance. Someone else will hopefully "have" those draft classes a year from now.
On another note, here's an entertaining quote from the Nationals Scout site, just prior to the details of the trade being released: Quote:

The only thing thats going to suck about losing Bavasi is that we are likely going to lose Fontaine as well.
The Mariners should be giving HIM $6 million a year to stay.

We could do with Bavasi holding onto his job until mid June - so that we can have one more Fontaine draft.
My hope then is that we're doing so terribly that Yamauchi or whoever sees Lincoln's ultimatum to Bavasi as the such an awful error - that the front office is completely cleared out. Can you imagine how hot Bavasi's phone is right now? - I bet all 29 GMs are hitting re-dial non-stop. |

This begs a question:
Do you think it is smarter for people in Howard Lincoln's position to not threaten GMs about their jobs considering they may go to desperation mode? Gotta wake them up somehow...but in hindsight to what has happened to our franchise in the last month...do you think it was a good idea? |

I look at Vidro's numbers over the past couple of seasons and I am reminded of Carlos Baerga.
When Baerga was with the Indians he looked like he was a future HOF'er. Then he was dealt and something drastically went wrong. I want to remind you all that Vidro was in fact one hell of a player when he wore an Expo uniform. He was probably one of the top 10 players in baseball. Obviously we can't say that about him now. What the real head scratcher is for me with this deal is that we are apparently going to use him at DH??? Where in the world did Bavasi come up with the bright idea that Vidro was an excellent choice to be the teams new DH??? Last edited by RotatorCuff; December 14th, 2006 at 05:02 PM. |

It sounds like that how Vidro was being shopped.
He can only play the field 1 day a week, so an AL club looking to upgrade at DH was the obvious fit, and Bavasi was just the dope to go for it. Quote:

Vidro is a much better hitter than he gets credit for. career .301 and that includes some really top-notch years playing for really bad lineups. I suspect he'll do just fine. Probably DH half the time and spot-start in the field where he's not bad.
I've yet to figure out why ya'll think Snelling is so great but Fruto being in this deal as well seems a bit strange. |

Snelling possesses very good plate discipline and when he gets that good pitch he can do something with it. He also displays great hustle and wants to win. Don't forget he's also 7 years younger and at least $5 million cheaper (for what the Mariners will have to pay). |
