Simple question without conducting a poll.
Does anybody honestly think that this team can finish anywhere but last in the West for the fourth straight season? I'm with 2Quarters, this team could lose 100 games. They are that weak. At one time I would have thought that the Mariners GM job would be a coveted position but I don't know who in their right mind is going to want to come in here after next season and clean up this mess? |

Yes, it was particularly gratifying to read somewhere - was it Baseball America? - that not only does our major league team suck, but we're next to last among all teams in baseball in terms of our farm system.
It just keeps getting better. Howard Lincoln may be the worst CEO in the history of baseball. |

Look at last year opening day vs potentially this years opening day.
c - Kenji 1b - Sexson 2b - Lopez SS - YuBet 3B - Beltre LF - Raul CF - Reed RF - Ichiro DH - Everett Starters Moyer Felix Jarrod Gil Joel Pen Putz Everyday Eddie Soriano Sherrill Mateo 2007 C - Kenji 1B - Sexson 2b - Lopez SS - Yubet 3b - Beltre LF - Raul CF - Ichiro RF - Guillen DH - Vidro / Broussard ? Starters Jarrod Felix HoRam Bautista Baek / Woods / Huber / Feierabend Pen Putz Sherrill O'Flaherty Mateo Loser of 5th starter race While on paper it doesn't look like a very good team, it's a bit difficult to say that it's 15 - 16 games worse than last years team. I would say that they'll still lose 84 to 88 games, but no more than that. Of course Bavasi still has time and this is all based on YuBet anchoring the infield.

uggh. that's a terrible thought... I was prepared for the M's to suck(at least this year) but not the Hawks too! Hopefully they can pull together and beat the...........................chargers next week. ****. the chargers... doesn't look good. hopefully they rest their starters. *fingers crossed*. This is an M's message board, huh.... sorry. lol. I don't really feel like talking about the M's right now, that's how disappointing they are. I predict around 82-87 losses though... so a slight improvement imo.

100 losses? Unless major injuries happen to Ichiro,Felix, and probably Beltre then I don't see that happening.
90 losses? I don't see that either. 80 losses? Sure.

Im just gonna hope for 100 losses...
Anything to rid ourselves of Hargrove and Co. Similar to the Sonics right now...theyre playing very well, but just not winning. Thats what I hope from the Mariners. That way our young guys dont take a step back, but we still lose the jerkoffs. Nice Sea-Ari sig by the way...I like the D Backs...but mostly on video games... |

The 2006 squad lost 84 games.
Set aside your emotional attachment to Snelling and Soriano and tell me just how this offseason has made this team at least 6 games worse than the 2006 ballclub. People are freaking out over the last two trades and letting their emotional states get the best of them. Yes losing Soriano and Snelling seriously sucks and I hate Bavasi for it. But you can't realistically tell me that the 2007 ballclub as it currently is, is a 90 loss club,

Sadly, there's no way this team loses 100, or even 90.
We have too much young talent to suck that bad, and too much crap to win. We are in the ick zone. And will be for the foreseeable future. I'd much rather lose 100, blow the hole thing up and start over with new management (Antonetti!), but there's no way that happens. We lose 85, max. Betencourt will be as good or better, Lopez could be significantly better (if they stop jacking with his swing), and Felix should be better as well. I do think the pen will be significantly worse without Sori and Lowe, so if we lose Putz somehow I'd be open to the posssibiilty that this team loses more than 85. More than likely, though, this is a 77 to 85 win team. And it will be extremely frustrating. (BTW, thanks to goose and 2Q for the invite over this way) |

Finally the remaining guy I wanted to see around here!
So Dawg, you honestly think Betancourt will be as good as last year? Im talking offensively, of course. It would be nice, but until he stays consistent, I cant give him that vote of confidence. I fell for this before with some guy named Morse. Then again, Morse didn't hit like that over a whole season... |

However, as Dave Cameron has pointed out, YuBet is an extreme groundball hitter. We know that ground balls are a) more likely to go for base hits and b) less likely to go for extra bases. Yuni is also extremely speedy, which is an advantagage for a gb hitter. Considering his age, experience, etc, my expectation is that Yuni will post a similar batting average (give/take 15 points), with slightly more walks (this may be wishful thinking, but I'm thinking he will become slightly more patient with age and comfort in the bigs) and maybe a smidge more power. Being an extreme gb hitter, he's never going to post big SLG's without a major reworking of his swing, even though I think he actually has decent pop in his stick. If I had to project YuBet's 07 I'd put him around .285/.315/.420 which is a small jump in OPS. I'd honestly be surprised to see YuBet's OPS drop, though not shocked. Morse is a completely different animal. |
