So says Ken Rosenthal here.
He says it's done, pending a physical. It's a 3 year contract, but no money has been announced yet. Since he already turned down $24 million from the Royals, I'm guessing he'll get $30 from us.

If only we could slide Washburn, Batista, & Ramirez down a notch and just throw Dice-K right in there. What a difference an arm makes.
Don't the baseball God's owe us a Ryan Franklin or Paul Abbott 2001 about now? It's about time we got some overachievement. |

I actually like the Batista signing. He would be a solid complement to a true TOR. In this market I think the deal will be a good one. I'm always a fan of this team signing a Latin player, especially one who is so well respected in the Latin ballplayer community. Maybe one of the small presses up here can put some of his written works out in English though.

But at what price? 8 million dollars a year for three years for a 36 year old pitcher. Sorry bedir, I don't care how well respected he is in the Latino community. That's too much money and he's too old.
It's another desperation signing by a management team that doesn't have a clue. Guys who continue the philosophy with respect to free agents of settling for the 98 Taurus when what you really need is the new Acura or Maxima or Mercedes. |

I can just see it now.
During the first Angels game of the year, a brawl is going to break out. Guillen is gonna start pounding Mike Scocia with a bat and Batista is gonna be powerbombing players left and right. ![]() Ooops wrong Batista. Regardless they should share the same nickname. It's no longer Miguel Batista, it's just THE ANIMAL!

Believe it or not Goose, that Batista is older than Miguel!
I like Miguel better than Ramirez---a guy I never thought had much talent...still not impressed. Im not a big name guy either...so getting lesser names doesn't bother me. These signings and trades do. I said it before and ill say it again...I dont wanna hear the word 'trade' mixed with Mariner's name until we have a new FO. The only guy I can think of worth keeping in the FO is Fontaine. Screw the rest. |
