Game Two is tonight.
Weather actually looks good enough to get an open roof, but who knows when another thundersnow/hail will come through these days. Pitching Matchup is Felix Hernandez (once and future King) and Vicente Padilla (no relation to Jose). Felix we all know well. He's good, can get frustrated and he's good. His key this year will be to keep his walk rate down, while mixing in his non-fastballs better. Only 3 Rangers have more than 9 PA against Felix and Michael Young is the only one that does well of those with an 876 OPS Padilla has a -2.84 WPA last year with a BRAA of -22.51 (that means he's > 2 wins worse than average). He counts on a low 90s fastball, a slow curve and a rare show me change in the upper70s/low80s there's a rare slider in the low 80s as well. He's slightly a groundball pitcher who projects to have a FIP at about 4.85 or so. The Mariners should be able to continue their walk parade as Padilla walks more than 3 a game every year. Two Mariners are strong against Padilla - Ichiro with a 1.281 OPS and Vidro can get his hits. Lineups when they come out. We shouldn't expect any changes from the Mariners. Texas faces a righty tonight, so maybe something. Mariners Lineup Rinse, wash, REPEAT Rangers Lineup Kinsler 2b Young SS Hamilton CF Blalock 3b Bradley DH Catalanott RF Murphy LF Laird C Broussard 1B The Rest of the AL West LAAA (0-1) @ Minn Oakland (1-1) hosts Boston It is Armed Forces appreciation night for those that forgot. Some out there may need to register, or reregister We had to start over about 16 months ago.

Some people make their own luck
Jose Vidro isn't one of those, that was just lucky.

See, Ichiro does make his own luck, as we've seen that for nearly a decade now.

This game, and the early season has me thinking that this team could call its offensive theory "Slap your way to success"

Obvisouly the big news about this game is the injury to Putz and the lack of Closer for a few weeks.
Jennings doesn't matchup well with the Mariners that have seen him, he's been an NLer. All four Mariners that have seen him a dozen or more times hit above league average. The worst is Beltre (36 PA .777ops), but Sexson, Vidro and Wilkerson are all over the 1.000 ops mark. Good night for the team to do more than slap hit. Silva's first start as a Mariner comes against an organization that OWNS him. Blalock, Young, Broussard and Catalanotto all with solid histories against. Lineups Seattle Repeat Texas Kinsler Young Hamilton Blalock Bradely DH Catalanatto Murphy Laird Broussard

I think Raul should have gone for three. He looked to have had it, and he's not a guy who can necessarily score from second on the bloop singles that this club gets.

I'm starting to love a groundball inducing staff. Such beautiful defense players in this infield. Ok, really just two that good.

I'm so happy that YuBet and Lopez are starting the season solid. They are a future for this org, and having them succeed now is important.
