Top setup guys are getting 3year/15M$ deals or are traded for top organizational prospects this offseason.
Horacio is a mediocre lefty with no control.

Now that I had time to cool down, the trade still sucks badly.
The way I see it is this: Putz, in the Boston asking price, was considered untradeable for a very good hitter. Granted, we were giving them more, but nonetheless, Putz was the deal breaker. Yet, Soriano, who ignoring his arm trouble in the past, has been a more efficient pitcher in his career, and hes younger..with a better overall arsenal. Yet hes tradeable for a terrible pitcher? It scares me because had Soriano be in a different organization, I could only imagine what they could get for him. I could imagine this trade if Soriano was costing 12 mill a year, but come on. Watch Atlanta use him in the rotation, something the Mariners never really ventured into, and have him become a very good starter. I havent been a Bavasi defender, but I certainly didnt have as big a problem with him as the rest of the FO. At this point I want a new owner. Does he even care at the terrible jobs being done? Get a new owner, and clean everyone out the FO besides Fontaine. |

But like Bedir said, hope just died. No way we'll get a new owner anytime soon as it is.
So maybe he would TAKE SOME INTEREST and fire the guilty, maybe we could do something...but it just wont happen. This is one of those things like severe depression...you're in such a major hole that it seriously looks like you will never recover. Again, I wont lie...ill still pay attention to the team and everything, but im not giving them so much as an internet hit for one of their games next year. Not just to stick it to them---like they care anyways---but just because its too painful. What would we get for Felix if Bavasi traded him? With his perception of value, the possibilities are endless... Joe Blanton anyone? |

Ok one more thing, and I know im ranting so I apoloigize if im being pretty negative here...
But this is what hurts the most: We should improve a tad more this year...and if we do...Hargrove and Bavasi might be here longer. Its a lose-lose situation for the fans. We are already stuck with Bloomquist, who is perfectly fine if USED CORRECTLY. I dont wish death on people, but it looks like we're going to wait until they are all in nursing homes, or dead before our franchise ever gets revived with consistency. When the offseason started I had no idea it would look like this: Gain: Horacio Ramirez Jose Guillen (a plus actually) Sean White (Rule 5 draft...hes unimpressive and we used Pittsburgh to draft him for us early) Lost: Soriano Even if that right there was a trade, I wouldnt do it. Ay yi yi. |

Well I wasnt including the FAs we lost, but yeah. Id take Meche over Ramirez if it werent for the money. I know thats obvious, but any M's fan saying theyd take Meche over someone is still a pretty big statement.
I said before the offseason that I hope to dear God I dont hear the word 'trade' with the Mariners, because of the recent terrible ones made. Even when Manny Ramirez was taked about I freaked out. Overpaying sucks, but I rather have an overpayed Zito if I knew it was gonna get this bad, and possibly worse. Remember Reed and Broussard are on the trading block. The Orioles like Broussard and were willing to part with Penn, Loewan, and R. Lopez I believe, in general---not for Broussard to my knowledge. And the M's are actually interested in Lopez of the 3! Of course Reed is one of the famous 'sell low' values the Mariners have so I dont expect much there. To add insult, it looks like Snelling will play part time at best. Even though they're talking like hes our 4th OFer now, we all know Bloomquist will get the nod first. I rather have Ibanez DHing with Snelling out there with Guillen and Ichiro...but that would be the OBVIOUIS thing to do. |

Granted, its a paper from NY...but if thats true...im clueless with the inconsistency. If the Soriano value is that bad, than surely Richie Sexson is worth trading for Pavano. |

I do agree that Piniero has no business putting on a uniform but my point is that before alot of Mariner fans say that HoRam is garbage try watching him pitch for a season before you do so.. I got to watch HoRam a couple years ago because my girlfriend is a Braves fan and I honestly think he is a good pitcher.
Did I like giving up a power arm like Soriano??? Of course not but if you can acquire a decent number 3 starter for a setup guy you usally pull the trigger. |

A couple years ago, Ramirez showed promise. He has been alot worse recently than a couple years ago.
Alot of people get to watch the Braves, being they were in the playoffs for like 15 of the last 16 years...plus they are on TBS a chunk of the time. This was a terrible deal, and Ramirez is a 4th starter at best. If you classified him under the #3 starter category, you'd be saying he is just as good as Barry Zito. And that is far from the truth. |

Slica, what is the truth about who is really an Ace, #1,2,3,4,5 starter?
I would love to see the number of teams on which Mr.Zito would not be a top 3 starter.
