Per the boys at U.S.S. Mariner. 3 years, 15.5 mil/year.
This is big time. What should the M's do now? With Bavasi on the hotseat, this could get messy real quick. Let's hope the front office keeps a level head. |

Something tells me that Mariners wouldn't of let Schmidt go this easily if they didn't have something else on the verge.
If the Sea-Atl-SF trade goes down as a result. Then this news is all kinds of awesome. Besides, thats twice now that Schmidt has said he was either going to sign with us, or wanted to sign with us and then signed with somebody else. Screw Jason Schmidt.

I don't blame Schmidtty all that much. He signed for more money than he deserves, although I expected him to get the 4th year.
If the Hudson deal goes down I'll be cool with it. Or something comparable. |

SCREW JASON SCHMIDT! He shoulda just mentioned from the very beginning that it was all about the money. He got all us M's fans excited for nothing. I'm starting to worry that John Thomson is our backup plan, cause who's left...? Zito...? Riiight.

Bavasi stated that he suspects Schmidt never intended to switch leagues.
While I recognize that we need a pitcher with his abilities, even on the downslope, my mind has yet to wrap itself around the concept of paying 17 million/year for anyone who is not likely to win the Cy Young. |
