Wow a career record of 40-34 gets you "ace" status.

Call Bedard what you want Wiggen but please do not call him an ace because he has not achieved that status yet.

You just used Win/Loss in a pitcher quality argument?

Also, as a younger player, should we really count so many of his early years? Wouldn't it really be more likely to consider him an emerging Ace?

The last two seasons have certainly been good, but not the greatness I expect from an ace. But his components project well and he is certainly used to pitching well without Run Support.

Hey Bedard would be a nice addition but unfortunately he would come with the cost of Jones.

I just think the ace label does not apply yet just like it does not apply to Felix at this time.

So your argument is that Bedard isn't an ace, and therefore he isn't worth Jones?

Jones has done NOTHING yet. There is no guarantee he ever will do anything. But because he is a 'Seattle Prospect', he's somehow special. Like Jeremy Reed was special.

What was it about Jones' performance last year that convinced you he's a far better bet than a potential #1 or #2 starter? Because I didn't see anything.

I'm guessing he turns out to be another Jose Guillen type if we're lucky. .285- 25-90. Meanwhile we have the opportunity to get one of the top 3 or 4 left handed starters in the league. Amazing.

Of course this entire conversation is pointless, because you'd never get Bedard for just Jones anyway. Baltimore is dumb but they're not that dumb.

The sad thing Wiggen is that there is absolutely no package of players that doesn't include Jones that the Mariners could come up with to make a deal for a TOR starter.

Naturally a team looking to trade a TOR starter is going to ask for the best prospect but Bavasi doesn't have any other package that he can offer. NOTHING.

Hey I never said to not make the trade. In fact as I see it I don't know how Bavasi cannot make the trade with the way our rotation looks.

Bedard and Lambeau | KOMO 1000 News Radio - News, Weather and Sports - Seattle, WA Seattle, Washington | Headlines

Drayer on the Bedard rumors, not much new, except the caveat "don't panic!"

Also Ben Davis has been signed as an NRI or minor league FA over in Balt. Does that mean they don't need Clement?

I don't think Adam Jones is the second coming of Ken Griffey Jr. I do think that he will be a better player than Dave Henderson. Bedard has never thrown 200 innings and you only get him for 2 years. I don't think this team is 1 arm away from a championship, unless it's Sandy Koufax at the top of his game.

I don't think he is either but he is our best prospect and it is unfortunate that we have to trade him away.

Grain of Salt taken, but Churchill has a source that says to expect Bedard by Thursday as a Mariner

Prospect Insider - » Bedard-Jones Update

Here's hoping that Roberts or Mora are included coming, or Sexson is going, because I don't like finishing second and giving up the future.

I guess Churchill's source was wrong because it's Friday and Adam Jones is still a Mariner and Bedard is still an Oriole.

Why am I not surprised?

This trade will happen but not at the exact time that Churchill and his sources tell us it will.

Talks stall on trade for Roberts :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Cubs

Looks like you can't get both Bedard and Roberts for just quantity

Is it safe to assume this is dead? Can I now go get my Adam Jones jersey with confidence?

No

Today at the Mariners media luncheon Bavasi said a roster change should be expected and that they are looking at a "top of the rotation starter" per KJR-AM.

So unless the Mariners are a dark horse for Santana or Harden, its Bedard.

You probably shouldn't get a Jones jersey but look at the bright side, you will be able to buy a t-shirt with his name on the back for real cheap. The stores always start clearing those out at bargain basement prices when a player is dealt or cut.
