Sure they have two young kids on very reasonable contracts in YuBet and Lopez, but the old caveat is that you have to give up something to get value.
So if you were the Mariners would you pursue a MI in order to gain the flexibility to deal a YuBet or Jo'pez? If it meant adding a Bedard or a Kazmir but the club was stuck with a Kaz Matsui or Eckstein or Bloomquist as a regular would that be worth it?

i wouldn't, there is nothing in the FA market that i would want to waste money on. but i also wouldn't be afraid to trade either yuni or lopez if it brought in a TOR starter and just inserting bloomquist at ss (and finally take advantage of his sb ability) or that chen kid at 2b

Kaz Matsui is set to sign with the Houston Astros.
Mark Loretta will likely end up in Houston. I would love to replace Jose Lopez but I think it is too late. I really wanted Edgar Renteria at SS and Y-bet at 2b, but didn't happen.

Houston needs two starting second basemen?
And phred, I think I like your idea with two of Bloomquist, Chen and Navarro filling in the opening and the backup role if it nets a MOR. I seriously think I could tolerate Bloomquist as the 9 hitter if Kazmir or Bedard are acquired.
