Default Mariners about to sign John Thomson

Link

This has been buzzing around the blogosphere all morning. Looks to be a solid signing.

One year with a second year option. I wonder what the monetary figures look like.

Awesome. Cheap, short-term, space-filler.

Basically, we had to make a move just like this, so unless there's another 1-year deal for a back-end starter that you'd prefer, there's not much to complain about.

well if it's for 1-3 mill then sure - why not. if its for a substantial amount - seems a huge risk for a guy that is way to injury prone. Ofcourse if you look back at his career you can see he's due for another injury free season so hopefully this one is it.

I like John Thompson. I saw him pitch at Safeco in an inter-league matchup and I liked what I saw. Of course it all comes down to his health.

I'd rather go this route than break the bank for Jason Schmidt.

I have no objection to this as long as everybody realizes this is a guy who spends more time on the disabled list than on the field.

It could pay off if JT can play well late in the rotation, it better be a cheap deal though, he could be off the roster by the end of ST but he could just as easily be on the team throughout the season. Don't like the move it's too hard to predict what will happen with him.

As a Braves fan I've seen him pitch many times, and I really like him as a starter. You are correct about his injury problems though. I think he could be a well above average starter if he could stay healthy.

He's just holding Feirabend's spot anyway... let's pray for a healthy first half.

so what's the story with this one? Has it cooled or is a deal imminent? What seemed like a sure sign has gotten a bit quiet so just checking if someone knows if this is a for-sure deal or still up in the air?
