Default Roenick signs one year deal

Jeremy Roenick is not retiring after all, as the veteran centre has signed a one-year contract with the San Jose Sharks for $500,000.

"Jeremy Roenick is a tremendous competitor and he has a great love for the game of hockey," Sharks GM Doug Wilson said Tuesday in a statement. "We feel he can add something to the talented group of players on our club and we feel that this is an environment where Jeremy can be successful."
Roenick spent last season with the Phoenix Coyotes, recording 28 points in 70 games. He had suggested during the summer that he would likely retire.

Roenick has 495 career goals, 675 assists and 1,413 penalty minutes. In 136 playoff games, he scored 51 goals and added 65 assists.

He also skated in nine NHL All-Star games and won an Olympic Silver Medal for the United States in 2002.

Roenick played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings and Coyotes over the last 18 seasons. He was taken eighth overall by the Blackhawks in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft and helped lead them to the Stanley Cup Final in 1992.

I can't believe he's coming back again...I thought for sure this was it.

I guess he's going to go for 500, so he feels that Mike hasn't really bested him...I've never been a fan of his, probably never will be. Seems a bit illogical for the Sharks to sign him, though it's a semi-bargain at only a half-million ($US)

I feel if your getting regularly scratched by the Coyotes you have yourself a problem. Hell add veteran presence.

I think it's hysterical. What a tool.
