Default Nj @ Sj - 11/25/06

Hard to believe these teams haven't played for 3 years! The Sharks haven't beaten the Devils at the Tank since 1999. I remember I was at that game, actually. A win with seconds remaining in OT, off of a breakaway goal by Marleau.

Used to be, New Jersey was the team that the Sharks were modeled after, in the way the team was built by Lombardi. I don't think that's quite the case anymore, although they still both seem to have the same emphasis on home-grown talent.

Devils are on a two-game losing streak. Looks like Cheechoo and Michalek are still out. According to the Merc, Bell was back with Thornton in practice yesterday.

Normally I would root for the Eastern team here to steal points from the West...especially vs a division rival...but I HATE the Devils.

So Go Sharks!!!

A bit of a boring game to watch. You could definitely see that NJ didn't want to hang with the speed of the Sharks, and did what they could to slow it down. It was kind of funny to see the Devils getting booed by the crowd for spending forever standing behind their own net trying to slow down the back and forth pace. But in the end, it was for naught.

The top two lines had some good dominating play, but in the end it was an individual effort that won the game.

Smith started with Thornton, then got shifted back to the lower lines as RW reunited Bell with Thornton. Smith just isn't enough of a finisher to make the most of playing with Thornton. The Bell-Thornton-Grier line had some good chances.
