Much better effort last night. San Jose came out a little flat in the beginnings of the 1st, but finally started to pick it up. Pavelski didn't look out of his element at all. He and Bernier had some great chemistry later in the game. If he keeps this up, I see a long run for him. We can sit Clowe and Neminen if needed.
I really don't understand DW's decision to surround Thornton with Grier and Smith. You have the best passer in the game, and you give him a defensive specialist and a 4th-liner. Don't get me wrong, I love Smith. He gives it all every game. But he's not exactly a finisher. Their defense was a little suspect as well. Some bad giveaways, and they would get caught running around against the cycle. We still need one more solid veteran D-man to help eliminate that trend with the youngsters.

It's pretty likely. The amazing thing is that San Jose hasn't been playing all that well for the past few weeks, even in their wins. Yet they're still winning, and keeping pace with the Ducks. That bodes pretty well for if/when this team really gets it together.
If they could consistently play like they did for about the span of 10 minutes in the 2nd period last night, they're near unbeatable.
