Default Congratulations, Barry!

756. He did it. There's a new homerun champion of all time and it's Barry Bonds.

He’s reunified the single-season and career HR records, which haven’t been in the same hands since that October day when Maris hit 61.

Good for Barry. Cheers to him.

Isn’t it interesting that he hit the record-breaker off a pitcher who, like Bonds, is also the son of a major leaguer?

Now on to Sadaharu Oh.

....and congratulations on being indicted on six federal counts of perjury and obstruction of justice! If he gets convicted and sent to a federal prison, I wonder how that'll effect his status in all these record books???

It's going to be very hard to convict him. This needs to be cold-hard evidence that can't even be considered to be looked at in another way. Look at O.J.'s murder case, for example.

I pretty much agree, but I also read on CNN or somesuch place that when charged at this level, there's something like a 95% conviction rate. They said that charges like this aren't brought at this level unless the prosecutors feel they have an open and shut case. I don't figure we'll be hearing the end of this fiasco for a long, long, long time.

Look, the truth is that I don't have any particular great hatred for Barry Bonds. I don't care about him all that much. I -do- care about him having Hank Aarons record, if it's proven that he used PED's to break it. I don't care if he goes to jail or not, I don't care if he gets into the HOF or not (though if he's convicted, I seriously doubt he will, ie. he'll get Pete Rosed.) However, if it's shown that he used PED's for a substantial chunk of his career, I'd love to see Hanks record reinstated, though I don't even know if that's actually technically/legally possible within MLB's rules.

I'm not a huge Bonds/McGwire/etc. hater. But I don't like the idea of giving them places in the record books if it can be shown that they cheated. Other sports have stripped records, medals, and such, and I'd like to see MLB do the same.

I love Bonds, but that isn't the reason why I think his number should stay as the leading number. I just truly don't think steroids made him a stronger home run hitter in general, and I have pages of evidence to back up that claim. I would just have to dig them up.

Plus, who's to say Hank hasn't ever used an unfair advantage?
