ESPN - Jazz deal Giricek, first-round pick for 3-point specialist Korver - NBA
Quote:
The 76ers get an expiring contract in Giricek and a first round pick. The Ashton Kutcher look-alike is a nice complimentary player on a team with established stars that need role players i.e the Utah Jazz. The 76ers clearly need star-caliber talent as they don't have a player to build around. And even if Andre Igudola is a franchise player (I don't think he is) the 76'ers are going to need more than him to become a playoff team again. IMO this could shape out very well for the 76ers. Trade Andre Miller and get more cap space before the trade deadline and sign Elton Brand in free agency (no team has more cap space than the 76ers). They can draft OJ Mayo with pick #1 and Roy Hibbert with the Jazz pick.

I like your advice to Philadelphia. The Sixers could definitely retool and come back very strong next year if they landed Brand, Mayo and Hibbert. Imagine a lineup of: C Roy Hibbert, PF Elton Brand, SF Andre Iguodala, PG OJ Mayo, and SG Louis Williams, with Samuel Dalembert off the bench. That's a very solid team that would still have money left over to sign a serviceable veteran for the MLE. If Brand re-signs with the Clippers, the Sixers could also go after Emeka Okafor.

Here is a early mock draft for the lottery teams in 2008:
1. Minnesota - Michael Beasley 2. Miami - DeAndre Jordan 3. Seattle - Derrick Rose 4. Memphis - Eric Gordon 5. New York - Donte Greene 6. LA Clippers - O.J. Mayo 7. Charlotte - Roy Hibbert 8. Chicago - Darrell Arthur 9. Milwaukee - Danilo Gallinari 10. Sacramento - Jerryd Bayless 11. Philadelphia - Kevin Love 12. New Jersey - Nicholas Batum 13. Houston Rockets - Chase Budinger 14. Philadelphia (from Utah) Darren Collison The Eastern Conference has certainly changed. The Net, Heat and Bulls in the lottery while the Hawks, Pacers, and Wizards (without Agent 0) in the playoffs? ![]()

I like your list, although I think Hibbert and Mayo will go a lot higher than 6th and 7th, respectively. It's much harder to find an impact center and point guard than it is to find a good SF/SG.
I'm a huge fan of Jerryd Bayless and think he'll eventually emerge as a top 3 player from the 2008 Draft Class. Scouts are underrating him because of the wrist injury and the spotty defense. But defense improves with time and Bayless possesses all of the adroit ball-handling skills, vision and speed necessary for running the point. I think he's a Rajon Rondo who can shoot. |

Good trade for both teams though, Korver is perfect for Utah and there was no point in the 6ers hanging onto him.
