Default Forsberg

Who's in position to acquire Peter Forsberg? Would he even be wiling to play for another team in the US besides the Flyers (or the Avalanche)?

From everything I've seen, it is down to San Jose and Nashville (front-runners). But, the longer it drags out, I hear that Vancouver and Montreal could resurface and staying in Philly is a strong possibility.

What makes me curious is how willing Peter is to stay in the US. Even with multiple suitors, will he be willing to commit to his team or go back to Sweden (or just flat out retire)?

It's a huge risk for anyone interested in him. Not just the injury problems, but his heart.

If he can push someone over the edge for the Cup, is the risk then worth it?

While I would love to have Forsberg on my team, I would be afraid to give up too much and have him unable to play due to Injury.

If you read all the gossip and hearsay, they make it sound like about 15 teams have been or are interested in him. I read he gave his agent a list of who he'd be willing to play for and it was pretty short. Who knows though.

As an Avs fan, obviously we know all about the injuries, etc, but you have a great point there that I don't seem to be reading much about in all these rumors. When he left the Avs, all the talk was that Philly was it for 2 years, and he was done...back to MoDo.

exactly, so this may be an extreme situation of rent-a-player. It's very difficult to justify throwing much at the Flyers for Peter. He's a great player but history shows personal circumstances will dictate his course. If a team gives up a high draft pick and player for him (or just the high pick ) for 3 months of service or less, it may be extremely detrimental toa franchises future...

Definitely. Which is why in my little homer heart, there's a place I'd love to have him come back to the Avs, but I just think the price is way too high. Literally, and looking into the future-wise.

A high draft pick is not too steep a price for Forsberg. He can instantly turn a top team into serious contender (Nashville or Buffalo, for example). No one in Edmonton is down about giving up a 1st round pick for Dwayne Roloson. We wouldn't mind the trade even if he hadn't signed here, given the glorious playoff ride he took us on. Forsberg can have a much greater impact than Roloson can, so GM with a team on brink should take a chance on him. But I seriously doubt you could get Forsberg for a 1st round pick, even as a rental.

Yeah, but Roloson doesn't have all the Forsberg issues. The constant injuries, retirement looming, going back to Sweden...etc. And yeah, you're right, he can turn a team into an instant contender IF he can stay healthy. The game after he's signed, that groin go go, the ankle, or something else and he could be gone for the season. It's just such a huge risk with him.

He's not worth a first, IMO. Roloson had a lot less mileage on him that Foppa does. That alone makes him more worth the 1st.

I'll give you that Forsberg is definitely riskier. But I still doubt that only a first round pick would do it. I would be asking for a top prospect who would be ready to play next year, at minimum, maybe a pick on top of that.

P.S. What's 'Foppa' mean?

Brad Stuart just got traded for two guys off Calgary's roster. Can't Forsberg fetch a warm body?

And you think a team is willing to risk it? Which team has the cap room AND the expendable prospects to make such a deal?

Philly is rebuilding now, or they should be. They should take what they can get if they are certain about trading Peter at all. That may amount to just a 3rd rounder with thanks to the cap hit and long term risk on the investment in Forsberg.

Is Brad Stuart someone who is willing forgo an NHL career to play for Modo in his home country of Sweden simply because he is uncomfortable?

That's probably what they want out of him too. What kind of pick would you be suggesting?

Re: Foppa
Don't know. No one knows. Not even he knows. Just some nickname his hometown gave him.

According to Comcast sportsnet, the Flyers have asked for 2 first round picks and a young player that's already in the NHL or ready to play in the NHL.
