Default Yankees & Mets Growing Pitchers, Not Buying Them

MONEY WELL-SAVED BY JOEL SHERMAN - Yankees - New York Post Online Edition

"So as a new year arrived, it was obvious that the New York teams would neither break nor break the bank. Instead, their current philosophies became more vivid. The Yankees and Mets had recognized the modern hazards in trying to purchase pitching and redoubled their efforts to procure, develop and protect young, high-end pitching."

The problem with this article is it's been-there, done-that for both teams.

Any arms that are in the Yankees and Mets minor leagues will be traded at the deadline for current roster help. It's that simple. Both franchises have been doing it for decades (Jim Fergosi for Nolan Ryan and change? Frank Viola for David West, Kevin Tapani and Rick Aguileria... and that's just the Mets!)
