Default Jim Balsillie pulls out!, Casino deal going where?

"NHL introduced a lengthy list of terms and conditions on the closing day that Balsillie would have to agree to if he were going to be approved as the new owner of the team. The sources added that those conditions included keeping the franchise in Pittsburgh under any circumstances and also provided for a scenario where the league could take control the franchise if it deemed it necessary."http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=188556&hubname=

With the NHL breaking a deal, changing the agreement means only one thing...who will want to buy this team under those circumstances? Whoever buys it under those circumstances will not be an owner, rather paying to be a manager which imo is not worth looking at buying if I were Jim Balsillie.

Bettman: Pens' future may hinge on casino. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=186293&hubname=

I hope for the Pens' sake they are able to get this worked out. I don't think relocating the franchise is a good option... Pittsburgh deserves a team.

Especially if they're thinking of moving them to Kansas City. All of the players would have to grow mullets and start driving camaros to assimilate.

Without new building, Pens are gone

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/pit061203.html

"One item on the agenda for tomorrow's board of governors meeting is the approval of the sale of the Pittsburgh Penguins to Jim Balsillie.

While the meeting is merely a formality, there are widespread reports suggesting the team will eventually move if they fail to secure a new building.

According to the Ottawa Sun, Houston remains the No. 1 candidate if the franchise does decide to move, while other reports suggest Kansas City is an option.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman warned the Penguins' future in Pittsburgh is uncertain if the Isle of Capri casino chain isn't awarded a license next month to build a slot machines parlor in the city.

Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. has promised to build a $290 million arena to replace 45-year-old Mellon Arena, at no cost to taxpayers or the team, if awarded the license."

I think Dallas would try and prevent Houston getting a team.
