Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - The Phoenix Coyotes assigned goaltender David Aebischer to their American Hockey League affiliate on Wednesday.
The native of Switzerland posted a 13-12-3 record, with a 3.17 goals-against average, in 32 games with Montreal last season. The Canadiens acquired Aebischer from Colorado for Jose Theodore in March, 2006. He signed with the Coyotes as a free agent in July, but found himself on the wrong end of a three-goaltender rotation that included Mikael Tellqvist and Alex Auld. He lost his only start of the year, a 3-0 loss to Columbus on October 10. In six NHL seasons, Aebischer has collected a record of 106-74-12, with a 2.52 GAA and 13 shutouts in 214 career games with Colorado, Montreal and Phoenix. He won a Stanley Cup in 2001 with the Avalanche as the rookie backup to Hall-of-Fame goaltender Patrick Roy.
