Default This Day in Phillies History 4/5

Today in Phillies History by Broad and Pattison

Phillies' All-time Record for Today:
6 wins, 7 losses, and 0 ties (for a winning percentage of 46 percent)

It Happened Today in:
1913: The Phillies scored twice in the ninth inning to tie their game with the Athletics 2-2. Neither team scored as they played another 9 frames, after which the game was called on account of darkness. The 18-inning affair established an inter-league record for the longest game. The Athletics' "Boardwalk" Brown pitched all 18 innings.
1965: Wes Covington's fourth inning single was the only hit by the Phils in a 2-0 exhibition loss to the Chicago White Sox.
1989: Ken Howell throws 5 wild pitches in a game vs. the Cubs, setting a team record. The Phils win anyway, 12-4
2004: The Phillies open the season with John Vukovich as third-base coach, Making "Vuke" the longest-tenured coach in team history.
2006: Jimmy Rollins doubled in his first two at-bats against Mark Mulder and the Cardinals, bringing his hitting streak to 38 games. The Phils lost the game 4-3.
