Fantasy Baseball - Rotoworld.com Chicago Sun Times The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the White Sox have contacted the Phillies in an effort to reacquire Aaron Rowand. It was something of a surprise that the White Sox didn't get Rowand in the Freddy Garcia deal. The center fielder can be had in exchange for the right amount of relief help. The Phillies would probably ask for Mike MacDougal, which would be a tough trade for the White Sox to make. A package of David Aardsma and Sean Tracey might be more to their liking. |

Sox gazing at Lieber? It's worth considering on ChicagoSports.com
March 12, 2007 KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Among the impressive pitchers in Florida this spring is a former 20-game winner who won 17 games as recently as 2005 but seemingly has been phased out by his team. Jon Lieber doesn't light up radar guns, but he's throwing strikes and getting ground balls, which was the exact formula he used when he was an All-Star for the Cubs in 2001. Because the Phillies added Freddy Garcia and Adam Eaton this winter after getting Jamie Moyer late in 2005, they do not expect to have room for Lieber in a rotation that includes Brett Myers and Cole Hamels. They have been trying to move Lieber's $7.5 million salary. Now you wonder if they can still justify trading the 36-year-old Lieber, especially within the National League, given how well he's throwing. While rarely considered a true No. 1 starter, Lieber has made seven Opening Day starts. Yet he said Saturday he'd be willing to work out of the bullpen if the Phillies don't trade him. "I'm going to do whatever they tell me to do," Lieber told the Bucks County (Pa.) Courier Times. "If they want me in the bullpen, I'll go down to the bullpen. If they want me to start, I'll start. If they want to trade me, they'll trade me. … I'm just getting ready. I'll be pitching somewhere." As strong as he appears, he'd be a godsend for many NL teams, including the Mets, Cardinals, Astros, Braves and Giants. But with serious playoff aspirations, the Phillies will be careful about making a move that could impact division or wild-card races. Could the Sox work a deal for Lieber and center fielder Aaron Rowand? Yes, but it might cost them Joe Crede or Josh Fields—who looks ready to hit at the big-league level—or at the least Mike MacDougal, Rob Mackowiak and prospects. Wow, I wouldn't mind them guys, even though we don't need Crede. Fields would be nice though.
