Default Rumor: Lieber for Rios

globesports.com: Blair: Thomson leads, Ohka falters in rotation race

Today, a B game will be played in Clearwater against the Philadelphia Phillies, in which Casey Janssen and Dustin McGowan — both ticketed for Triple-A Syracuse and both of whom have attracted trade inquiries — will pitch for the Blue Jays against a Phillies team whose general manager, Pat Gillick, spoke to the Jays as far back as the winter meetings about the availability of right fielder Alex Rios.

Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi said last week that “we're not trading Rios” — not unless the Phillies are willing to give up Cole Hamels or Brett Myers, and good luck on both fronts — but that didn't stop one of Gibbons's friends who is now a scout from telling him he'd heard that Gillick wants Rios.

It's clear that the two teams have some parts that might dovetail, but finding the right combination is trickier and might require the addition of a third team.

how about Vernon Wells for Myers? That's the only way I would give Myers to the Jays.

If the Phils could get Alex Rios I would be estatic. Although I don't want to trade Myers at all right now

I wouldn't give up any top prospects for Rios either. If we can find a way to give them Lieber, Carlos Ruiz and a low level prospect for him, that would be great.

It depends on what type of prospect they want

WIP mentioned that they would Give up Lieber and Rowand for Rios. I think that's too much.

I would do that in a heartbeat.... Lieber is an out of shape pitcher and Rowand is a bad collision away from taking out Chase Utley

I would like Rios, but we also need bullpen help, and Rowand is probably gonna be able to give us that.

Also, doesn't Toronto have a CF anyway? Vernon Wells.

I think people seriously over rate Arron Rowand, I don't want him on the team at all. He's a weak bat, he's wreckless, and if we can get anything for him... get it. Jon Lieber at this point is nothing to me at all. Alexis Rios is a player who before an injury looked like an all star. He's young and he would be a nice addition as a fifth hitter. I am sure that Golson or Ruiz can get u some bullpen help

I agree. Rowand is a team leader and can play defense, but you can put Victorino in CF, and hopefully acquire a RF. If we can get bullpen help for Rowand I'd be ok with it as long as we can acquire another OF.

If the Phills lose Rowand would they want a different former ChiSox CF in Jeremy Reed? His offense has been woeful at the ML level, but his defense stellar, the exact opposite of his minor league career. Baseball Prospectus once rated him as the #2 prospect in baseball even.

On the Mariners he will be the 4th OF a role that Willie Bloomquist and Mike Morse can fill. Reed should be playing full time.

Bedir: The talk around here is that if the Phillies move Rowand that Victorino would move to CF, and the Phils would trade Lieber for an OF, or possibly platoon Jayson Werth and Greg Dobbs in RF.
