Default No long-term plans for Garcia

Quote:
The Philadelphia Phillies have not approached him about an extension, but expect Freddy Garcia, who will make $10 million this season, to hold off on committing to anything past October.

"I've only been in Philadelphia once," said Garcia. "I want to make sure I like it. I want to make sure my family is comfortable."

He has heard plenty about the demanding fans in Philadelphia, but, he says, pitching three seasons in Chicago for the White Sox toughened him plenty

The Phillies will have to wait to see how he does, but I think Freddy is a good pitcher. Personally, being a White Sox fan I miss Freddy ...

I am glad the Phillies are approaching this as a wait and see on this. If he comes in here and stinks, then we don't have him another year. I think Freddy will do well here, even though his shoulder problems are a concern.

I actually think Freedy will start off slow... but I still like the idea of locking him up.....

Why Emmanuel? If he comes out and wins between 10-15 games and post a 4.50 Era or higher, I wouldn't re-sign him for what he's making now. Considering today's market value, Garcia should be in line for a nice raise after the season is over if he has a solid year. I am definitely for waiting, but if he's 10-0 on July 1st, and he is on pace to win 20 games, then I'd definitely consider it.

yeah I know. If he wins 15 games, and has an Era under 4.5, then he's gonna get rich. Someone will pay him 5 or 6 years at $80 million or so.
