The Padres and Phillies were discussing swapping Scott Linebrink and Aaron Rowand, but talks are on hold for now.
"It might be something we discuss again later this spring," San Diego GM Kevin Towers said yesterday. "But right now I want to see what we have in spring training. I want to see how (outfielder) Terrmel Sledge plays and how our bullpen shapes up." If the Padres had a void in center field, a deal would make a lot more sense. Rowand, though, doesn't have the bat to be more than an average left fielder, even if he would be great defensively. The Padres are probably better off with Linebrink. i know it would be a gamble but i think we should hold on to lieber until towards the end of spring training in case 1 of our starters gets injured or if another teams pitcher breaks down or that underperformsthey may overpay for him then
