After contract talks broke off with forward Dany Heatley's agents last night, it is believed that the Ottawa Senators are preparing to make another offer.
Heatley's agents J.P Barry and Stacey McAlpine presented the Senators with an offer last night that was abruptly rejected. Ottawa countered, but the counter offer was declined. At that point the negotiation stalled for the night. Sources say today that both sides have softened and a deal could be very close, however all of the main components, money, term and structure remain in question. It is believed the Senators are interested in a five-year agreement, while Heatley is seeking six or more with the salary average speculated to come in around the $8 million mark. The negotiation appears to be moving minute by minute and may continue right up until game time as Ottawa faces the Maple Leafs in Toronto. Heatley remains committed to shutting down contract discussions during the season, but if the Senators were to recognize his expectations at any point throughout the year a deal could get done ![]()
