Default Walsh demoted from OC

Quote:
The Oakland Raiders replaced offensive coordinator Tom Walsh on Tuesday, promoting tight ends coach John Shoop to take charge of the team's struggling offense.

Shell said earlier in the season that he does not like changing his coaching staff during the season but ultimately decided to make the move with five games left. Shell called it a "difficult decision" that had to be made for the good of the team.

"Tom has been diligent in his effort to get our offense going in the right direction," Shell said in a statement. "In no way should the lack of a more successful offense be placed totally at his feet. Everyone plays a part in the success of any team. ... We look forward to John's input as we continue our goal of bringing the Raiders back to prominence."
Is Randy Moss happy now? Will he go back to playing instead of sulking on the field?

finally!!!

apart from some serious lack of effort by certain players on offense, Tom Walsh and his football cluelessness is why this offense is struggling

All I can say is it's about damned time. Luther ( I call him that because he reminds me of Jerry Van Dyke's character from Coach) showed over and over again that he was clueless in setting up a gameplan and even worse at making adjustments after halftime. Our grand total of three or so second half TD's are proof of that.

Shoop may or may not be the answer (he was pretty much ran out of Chicago) but ANYBODY is an improvement over Walsh.

As for Moss, I doubt we'll see him in silver and black again, unless his contract is structured the way Porter's was headed into this year, which would mean a hell of a cap hit next season. He wants to be on a contender now and unfortunately, we are a season and a half away from that imo.

The Raiders coaching staff in general has been a mess since Gruden left. As a Broncos fan I enjoy watching the Raiders in meltdown, but I got to admit it has gotten to a point where I am starting to long for a decent rivalry again.

I doubt Shoop is the OC next year. How long do you guys expect Shell to be the HC of the Raiders. The defense seems to be going in the right direction at least. Porter and Moss have to go they can't continue to treat the organization the way they have.

Art will definitely be back, Al won't burn him after one season. Guys like Slater and/or Eatman could be in trouble because of how crappy the line has looked, though a lot of the stupid holds and false starts seem to be down.

Ryan and Daisher have done a great job on defense and special teams. It's the offensive side of the ball that's done us in all year. Except for the season opener, every game we've been in has been winnable except for one small problem: we haven't been able to score, especially in the second half.

I doubt Shoop is the OC again too, unless there's a hell of an offensive turnaround while he's making the calls.

Moss has been the bigger problem imo, especially when he's ran his mouth about wanting a trade or not making catches because he's depressed. That's real fun to read and hear after watching him jog his routes then be out of position when the ball is thrown his way. Art should've benched him and given Porter another shot at #1 three games ago imo.

With regards to the demotion move, it's really about time. The funny thing is that Shoop has only to gain from this. The Raiders have hit the bottom offensively, so any change is good.

And notice the timing is good too. They play HOU this weekend, at home. I wouldn't be surprised to see Brooks throw 3 TD's maybe run for one, and get the whole offense involved and going.

HOU has the 5th worst pass defense in the league. And middle of the pack rush defense.
