Default The official Fire the Training Staff! thread

I have a feeling this one may take awhile....these guys seem to have better job security than Beane himself.

Nat; Is that you?

Or is this you?

"...Injuries are part of the game, hence the necessity for a deep bench. The ones who win in the postseason are basically the ones lucky enough to have healthy rosters going into October. I like Swish's comments, he's got that Ohio common-sense (chuckle).
As Baron (and others such as MJ before him) has demonstrated, an injury is either na excuse or an opportunity. The A's seem to be using them as an opportunity to give others a chance who otherwise would've been moved by now. So far, it seems to be working out fairly well in the early season... " Nat, Oakball Forums 5/6/07

I think the rash of injuries for players stems from the unusually cold and wet weather this year and the fact that most teams play for a month in Fla or Ariz before going north to reality. The pulled muscles, the tight joints, etc., I think come from that. This year more than normally.

As for the training staff, this one was raised and developed by the previous one. That team had lots of problems too, as I recall frequent back spasms, plantar fascia, rib cage muscles, hamstrings. That would be Canseco, McGwire, Carney and Rickey BTW. It seemed like all the time they were getting injured. Don't even get me started on Storm Davis and Mike Moore. As for our trainer, Larry Davis, I think he knows what he is doing.

"Years In MLB: 23

Larry Davis has served as an athletic trainer with the Oakland Athletics organization for the past 34 years. Before Davis's promotion to the Major League level, he spent 11 years in Oakland's Minor League system, making stops in Tucson, Ariz., San Jose, Calif., Vancouver, Ogden, Utah, and Tacoma, Wash. He was promoted to assistant athletic trainer with the parent club in 1984 and was named head athletic trainer in December 1997. In 1990, Davis lectured on myotherapy at the PBATS Minor League spring training seminar in Mesa, Ariz., and in 1996 served as the athletic trainer for the MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia. He enjoys reading, hiking, crossword puzzles, and mountain biking."

Yes, that was me....but at the same point, when you have an ineffective staff memeber, you don't keep him around forever. How many hitting coaches have we had since Thad Bosley? And the offense hasn't been the A's biggest albatross in that time (2004 excepted?)...
I haven't read from players since the rash of injuries began a couple years ago...crediting Davis or his staff for bringing them to health. I have read criticism in that time....just sayin. At what point is someone (if at all) held accountable for all this?
DJ DOES seem to be sustaining his comeback, others are beginning to trail off, and then what.
