Hey all,
With the implosion of scout.com (is that text banned here?) it's clear that people have scattered to the ends of the A's earth. I've been keeping a low profile, grumbling about new owners and Fremont all offseason and only recently have returned to the fray. I must say that the AN-style blogs are informative but useless for actual discussion as they always devolve into back-slapping and personal chit-chats. Anyway just wanted to check in and say hello and invite others to post new topics so this place appears current when others trickle back in. As for the A's, I'm on board until they sign the ink on a Fremont stadium at which point the owners can shove it. No need for arguments there! |

Welcome to this little part of the great A's fan diaspora. I had dropped in to the MLB site also a few weeks ago, just as they also purged a bunch of posters and changed the format of the site completely. Lots of unhappy campers there. The A's won another slugfest just now, 8-7 vs San Diego. Those bats appear to be coming around into shape, as well as Rich Harden looking ready. The kids that have been coming in and winning a lot of these ST games also look like they are chomping at the bit. Now, about the rest of that starting pitching...... Last, what mean with "...As for the A's, I'm on board until they sign the ink on a Fremont stadium at which point the owners can shove it. No need for arguments there!" ? Are you saying you will follow the A's unless and until they ink the Fremont deal? Don't want to argue, just want to know, if that is the case, why? Anyway, let's enjoy this upcoming season, as it appears they will still be haggling about a new home by the time the playoffs start. Later, RDB Last edited by RobDogBucky; 03-23-2007 at 06:43 PM. That's the thread with the application PM, not that it has to be formulaic.

I'm not really into the Fremont A's idea, that's all. I became an A's fan because I was from Oakland and they were my team. As I feel that relocating to Fremont is an insult I'm not inclined to continue supporting the A's should that move occur. I am encouraged that the progress there is as slow as I expected. I would by the way support the A's were they to move to, say Portland. That's a real place, you see. Fremont? Not so much. I mentioned it because I've stepped back post-Fremont announcements and am a much more tentative fan at this time. Haren, Harden, Scutaro, Bradley and the Duke, however, are why I'm still an A's fan in 2007.
That said I think it's a waste of time to get into a discussion about it, leave that for, well, everywhere else. I was on fanhome in the old days, Nat, can I have my ten gajillion posts back? just kidding, I don't care a lick. |

Hah, I'm fine with my post count also....wouoldn't mind seeing half those folks from the old days find their way back tho.
As far as Fremont Athletics, well...it's certainly a tough sell. Tougher than the Santa Clara 49ers anyway. |

Hey Nat;
"Thanks guys, I'll do what I can to "drum up business" round here..." Maybe you should visit all the other boards with a cyber sandwich-board on, so to speak, like all the pimping for Fox/Scout's "MLBClubhouse," sites. They seem to be everywhere advertising their great new sites, with extra, value added features available, like playing a GM fantasy game, etc., to lure new posters to their sites. Yeah, that's the ticket, we'll wow them with added features, increase the value of the site and make people come just to participate in fantasy, etc. Let's see, what could FanHome use as a promotional device? Maybe our own fantasy games for A's fans? Fantasy A's Team: Predict what/where the A's will be in 10 years? (Formerly Fremont/Portland/Sacramento franchise settles in Hawaii?) Fantasy Moneyball: Re-shape other MLB franchises in the Moneyball mold? (What would George do if he only had $50 Million to work with?) Any other ideas for promotion? I should apply for copyright right now, right away, before we see these ideas pop up elsewhere. Prolly shouldn't have posted them here, should have PM'd Nat with it instead. Oh, well, not used to brainstorming at being a marketing idea man. This is a new game to me. We need to design a real neat cyber sandwich-board for Nat, maybe make a real green and gold one advertising "Visit FanHome on the Net," and walk around the Coliseum this season so fans notice him, like the A's robot guy last year. Did anyone else see him? Anyway, Nat, it's worth a shot, eh? Go A's! (One more week!) Later, RDB |

just mention that's it's a message board and it works. the format is the best for discussing baseball. get people first, then worry about leverage. if you want fantasy baseball or something you can use yahoo or espn.com

"just mention that's it's a message board and it works." I know what you mean. There are a lot of posters that have complained about the new formats that do not work. I left the Fox/Scout/EZBoards for college football a month or two ago when they went to "beta," and I could not even get the board to come on at home. Not to mention all the other glitches they were having in navigating around on their sites, etc. I have since upgraded and cleaned up my home computer and now can go view those sites, but many of the posters are no longer there. Off to the diaspora. I was being facetious about this board trying marketing efforts and pointing out all the advert that appears to be taking place pushing the "new," boards is cropping up all over the place. Right now there are 3 of the first 10 messages on the MLB board that promote/direct folks to visit MLBClubhouse. That is a concerted campaign to advertise to me. Seems to be some competition for disaffected posters that have either been banned on sites or are complaining about the way some of the "new," boards work. Like my experience in beta that I mentioned. Fox/Scout/EZBoards rolled out the beta before they had the kinks worked out. That resulted in a lot of complaints and on at least one collegiate football board that made that change, there was a revolt by a significant number of posters, who, in a pique at Fox/Scout/EZBoards, started their own alternative to that board. They now have about 30-40 posters present at any given time. Some of those boards made both formats still available and did not lose large chunks of posters to the change being worked out. I guess it is just marketing and some entities put the cart before the horse and make stupid business decisions like fixing something that isn't broke or rolling out product that is not thoroughly tested. I too hope that new posters would come here just for the good quality baseball discussions that take place and that the board just plain works. Go A's! (One more week!) Later, RDB |
